A few years after World War U, ISSEN-YOSHOKU
was eaten as a child's sanck. ISSEN-YOSHOKU is the predecessor of OKONOMIYAKI.
Housewives whose husbands had died in the war and could not work because
they had young children, could make it in the corner of their house.
This allowed these women to earn a living and provide for their children.
Neighbours and their families came to the house to eat and talk. These
informal restaurants created a system of support and communication for
the neighborhood. It helped strengthen the bonds within the community
creating a family-like atomosphere.
